PlayStation 4 To Be Neutered, Rendered Disc-Less August 4, 2006

blurayprototype.jpgThe PlayStation 3 isn't out yet, but that doesn't stop Sony's Phil Harrison from making wild speculations about the capability of Playstation 4. According to him, the PS4 won't support physical discs. At all. He opines:

I'd be amazed if the PlayStation 4 has a physical disc drive.

So you mean in 5-10 years, our home's series of tubes/big trucks/broadband connections will be fat enough to download a 50GB game in a decent amount of time? We sure hope so.

But wait, Phil! You mean those precious Blu-ray discs that your company's humping so hard is going to be gone by the time PS4 is out? Oh wait, Kotaku's Ashcraft already beat me to that joke/conclusion. Damn you Ash! Damn you and your 16-hour head start.

That is kinda weird. I would need a 100tb hard drive if they did that. And Sony rules.

I'm a big nintendo AND sony fan.
-
and to be honest - nintendo has come up trumps in the game console war against sony. But i really do think the Playstation should give up now, do what Sega did instead.
-
I think that would be a good idea, the PSone was excellent and a new beginning for 2000 (even thought i was realized afterwards)and so was the PS2, it's was like an upgrade from the PSone. PS3 Feels like an Expensive and not that appealing of an upgrade compared to the xbox and the Wii. but that old school playstation era is gone now, i feel that magic is gone.
-
Nintendo has always kept it fresh and not to complicated and that was good. Microsoft has done good also with the XBOX and the 360, but i hope they don't do what Sony has done by making the PS3 so, 'Same-y' (couldn't find an better/appropriate word)
-
Yes, The PS3 has got amazing graphics and good gameplay, and an amazing hard drive, but it's like franchise that everyone knows won't catch on.
-
Blu-Ray? it's good - but it feels like that time a few years ago when everyone thought that the Mini-Disc would be the future of music (12" Record, 7" Record, Cassette, CD etc.) but no, the future of music devices was the MP3 with the help of Apple Inc. and the iPod.
-
Who-knows, I Might be wrong, maybe the List of Home Movies would go like this; VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray - or maybe the Apple TV will change the world of Home Cinema forever as it did with the iPod.
-
also, Microsoft - in attempt to get a new 'hipper audience' has been releasing these random hardware, it's an equivalent the the iPod...The 'Zune' ... WTF?! it's like the PSP against the DS, DS Wins hands down!
-
The iPod against the Zune? no-one has hardly heard of it in europe?! america, yes, but maybe hard core Microsoft fans or people that have bought it because... i don't know! it's more expensive than the iPod and it's crap.
-
The Xbox 360 however is neat - never bought one, but I'm thinking of getting it from reviews from friends and magazines. PS3, not getting unless it's £200 (exactly $400 in america) but sony made this very annoying thing where they milk The UK out of money because of currency. I recently went to america and saw the PS3 was $399 and the ps3 in the UK was £269 making that price in US dollars $582
-
it should be £200 which it now but it isn't - they dropped the price to £299, almost $592.
-
THAT'S MORE!
-
please sony! make it cheaper! it would so make the decision to either buy a PS3 or an XBOX 360!
