sandisk sansa c200.jpg The budget end of the MP3 market is shark-infested territory. From big brands to no-brands - the latter I might add, can’t even handle one 40 degree cycle in the washing machine – this is cut-throat stuff where the players are free of frills but also light on your wallet.

SanDisk thinks it can up the ante in the £60-70 space with its Sansa c200 MP3 series of players, announced at IFA 2006 this weekend in Berlin. The c250 is a small, good looking 2GB player with colour screen, memory card slot, removable and rechargeable lithium-ion battery, voice recorder and FM radio with 20 presets. Phew! The 1.4in screen can be used for photo viewing while the battery will last for 15 hours.

The c200 series support WMA, MP3 and the protected WMA DRM format. A 1GB version is also available for around £50. Due out here in the coming months. – Martin Lynch
