Stormtrooper Outfit For True Fans September 10, 2006

You know you want this. Everyone has a dark side, even if you always imagined yourself to be a lightsaber-wielding saviour of space hottie, Princess Leia and her bagel hairdo.
Who the hell needs a fashionable lamp in the corner of the living room when you can have a 1:1 scale replica Stormtrooper? Not only will the Shepperton Studios Stormtrooper Armour look good on the next mannequin you manage to nick from Top Shop but this is actually fully wearable and can be adjusted to fit childish adults from 5ft 2ins to 6ft 2ins in height – as long as they don’t look like Jabba the Hut, that is.
The helmets have even been cast from the original 1976 moulds. Of course, you have to be ready to shell out a little more than you did for the 4in action figure. Is £1,299 too much? – Martin Lynch

Pantech Phone Porn: A Peek at the Future? September 10, 2006
READ MORE Gadgets , Mobile phones , Smartphones

And now for some phone porn from Pantech of Korea, where apparently the company's designers don't have enough to do, so they hang around dreaming up wild-looking phone designs all day, the results of which we find oddly entertaining. Hey, they're designers, aren't they? What else are they supposed to do but get to designing stuff?
Not much text accompanied these illustrations, and we're not even sure if any of them will ever be manufactured, but use your imagination.
The one pictured here looks like it might be perfect form factor to occupy, say, a kitchen counter when not in use, but slides out to reveal its keypad. Even more curiously satisfying photos after the jump. – Charlie White
Sony Rolls Out HDR-FX7 HDV Camcorder: Smaller, Lighter, Cheaper September 10, 2006

Sony added another HDV camcorder to the higher end of its consumer line today, the HDR-FX7, which uses three CMOS imaging sensors rather than the three CCDs of its FX1 brandmate while carrying 40% less weight at a 25% smaller size.
It's not intended as a replacement of the venerable FX1, but it's positioned as a lower-cost addition to Sony's HDV camcorder line. Even so, the 3.63-pound high-definition camcorder does have tons of updated features such as an HDMI port, smooth slow motion recording and more-sensitive low-light performance.
In keeping with its consumer-oriented heritage, pro audio features are lacking on the HDR-FX7 (could a pro version be waiting in the wings?), with its RCA audio inputs rather than the professionally-oriented XLR audio inputs, and its two audio channels are not independently controllable. Nor does the FX7 have the FX1's native 16:9 capture, instead horizontally stretching each pixel. While the FX7 camcorder will retail for around £1,900 when it ships in October, we're thinking its price should drop quickly, especially since that higher-end Sony FX1 currently has a street price of around £1,700. – Charlie White

Kids are cute, but suck while you're travelling. They whine, they drag their feet, they throw food, and cry for McDonalds every...freaking...meal.
One good way to shut em up is to pretend their luggage is a little race car, or giraffe, or a hearse. This is perfect for that, with a tow handle, a durable polypropylene shell that makes it very Samsonite Oyster-like. That hearse one really shuts em up good.–Brian Lam

For all those phone calls that end with "that's it, I'm getting a restraining order!" Dave Ciccone of Mobility Today points us towards LivePVR, a Windows Mobile call recorder. Yes, it has nothing to do with TV, making it stupidly named. But useful for catching interviews on cellphones, and collecting evidence against former loved ones who just won't go away.–Brian Lam

Samsung Announces Three Fast Response Time LCD Displays September 10, 2006

Three monitors announced today from Samsung—two 19-inchers and one 17-incher. The SyncMaster 971P is a 19-inch "premium" monitor that has a triple hinge stand and a black bezel. It has a crazy pretty decent 6ms response time, 1500:1 contrast ratio, 178/178 degree viewing angle and a native 1280x1024 resolution. The triple hinge lets you contort it like Plastic Man from DC (screw Marvel). It should retail for £200 soon.
The other two, SyncMaster 731BF and the SyncMaster 931BF have an even more impressive 2ms response time and a 2000:1 contrast ratio. They both can support 1280x1024 resolution, and are priced lower than the 971 at £140 and £170 respectively. So if you're going for performance, hit up the latter two, but if you really like the stand design, the SyncMaster 971P is for you. – Jason Chen
