It seems like nary the blink of an eye since dual-core CPUs were the hottest ticket in town with all their fancy cutting-edge newness and yet here they are in budget laptops going for a hefty chunk less than $1,000 already.

Averatec's latest 4lb, 12.1-inch laptop, the Averatec 2300, features a 1.6GHz dual-core AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-50 processor, yet costs just $849. Considering the fact that there's also a dual-layer DVD writer and a roomy 100GB hard drive in there, we're looking at serious bargain territory here.
