As surprising as it may sounds, ABIResearch's latest poll says 58% of current iPod users said they were "somewhat likely" or "extremely likely" to pick a Zune player over any other player? WTF? We tried to take a look at the actual survey results, but realized they cost £1,500. Yeah, no, that's ok. We'll pass.

The survey also says that the WiFi peer to peer sharing doesn't seem to be a big draw, and that it's critical that Microsoft differentiates itself in some way (apparently not in WiFi sharing). Nevertheless, it's hard to believe that 58% of users would say they'd pick the Zune over the iPod. And without the actual survey results, we can't say anything for sure.

Oh, and if anyone makes the lame/old/horrible/not funny "X% of statistics are made up on the spot" joke, I will personally disable their comment accounts.

Well, it already starts on the wrong foot -- it's not 58% of ipod users, it's 58% of the users that want to change their mp3 player. And then of course, their "careful" phrasing probaly means they show people a list of the Zune technical capacities and asked people if they'd buy a device with those capacities for their next mp3 player.

While interesting, I doubt they actually said to people "oh and by the way you won't be able to use iTunes with it, and any music or movie or tv show you got with iTunes won't work with it, nor any PlayForSure media content. Heck they probably didn't say it was NOT an apple product.

Seem to me that it's simply a fud report (would I say that it's probably a part of the Zune marketing strategy ? oh well...) with misleading points.

about as reliable as the surveys that say 60% or so people will consider a mac as there next coomputer, doesnt mean theyll buy one, btw 60% of surveys are made up on the spot ;) ponder that lol

Maybe it's down to the fact it's made by Microsoft hence they feel it might work better and smoother with their computer, of which in 95% (or abouts) cases will be a Windows machines.
