PS3 Destroyed In Front Of Fans November 18, 2006

It was certainly on the cards. The destructive folks behind the smashing of the iPod and the Xbox 360, are back with SmashmyPS3.
Why? Well, it’s just a smashing ‘thang’ funded by people who hate certain technologies and companies. People donate some cash and the desired product is purchased and destroyed in public on Day One, in front of adoring fans. There is no evidence whatsoever that Microsoft or any of its employees sent these loons money for this one.
Still, far more upsetting than a guy wielding a sledgehammer in public is the coat and hat on the guy picking up the PS3 for destruction. Now that’s scary.
Still, it all seems pointless to me. What's your take?

I agree that there being stupid here, but for the PS3 to take that kinda damage after all those hits really shows how well built the PS3 is.

They aren't the only ones, the people who sent the money in are to be blamed too. They keep these knobbers going.

I Dont know about that guys it was kinda of funny about the PS3 and making all of those people sad and all i wouldnt do it but it was still funny as hell
Its one thing to buy something for the sake of destroying it to get a bit of attention, but destroying it in front of people who want it and have been queueing a long time for it is just going too far.
When there's such a limited supply and such a great demand, it just salts the wounds. Someone who may have actually appreciated the $600 worth of electronics will have had to miss out because of this.
Well I found it funny...sorry. im a brit and our whole humour is based on ppl's suffering.
But no I wudnt like to be the ppl in line queing, but nor wud i like to be the person interviewed by Borat on TV...dosnt stop me finding that film hilarious.

There's 2 ways of looking at 'smashmywhatever' : a complete waste of resources + lack of respect for the environment (that's some heavy metals and non-degradable plastics straight into landfill right there)
OR
A social comment on the sheer desperation and greed for goods that us consumers get too overexcited about. I mean, there's wars and people dying in the world - those of us aghast at the destruction of a single piece of technology need to step back and get some perspective once in a while?
That said, I'm feeling that these guys are total jerks anyway and they've no real message themselves...

Life is too short to get worked up over a piece of plastic and metal. Honestly, if your life is so average that it gets made better by standing a a Q waiting for 8 days to be 'one of the first' to get a PS3 then you need a rethink.
The fact that everyones blood pressure is going up over this, is a pretty fair indication that you all need a perspective check!
Social comment? Rubbish. If they even remotely think it's social comment then the standards in American education really must be slipping.
OK, yes, it's mad to stand in line, but there must be better ways to tell teople not to do it than making one hairy 30 year-old earlier in line go home crying to his mum. Yeah, sure, they're sad, but dressing up in drag, buying a PS3 and smashing it up smacks simply of having too much money and too little to do. (And too little sense not to simply run off with the donations.)
On a secondary note, they're pretty solid, aren't they. With all those hammer-blows, you'd have thoguht they'd make more damage?

Seriously, it's their property and they can do what they want with it. If enough people were generous enough to donate to those kids the money to buy one of the most expensive and stupid consoles ever to be on the market, they can go ahead and set it on fire for all I care. And by the way that isn't drag, it's a pimp outfit, you Brits might not be too quick to the American pop culture :)
