Did Sony Short-Change PS3 Consumers? November 27, 2006

According to an analyst at American Technology Research, Sony shipped less than half the number of PS3s at launch than it promised. P. J. McNealy at ATR claims that as little as 125,000 units were made available for the US launch, instead of the 400,000 Sony promised.

If true it’s a real kick in the nads for all those lunatics that queued for days and still managed to go home with no more than a cold, or a mugging, for their trouble. He said:

“After further review, our research indicates that Sony's PS3 opening weekend shipments were below our already lowered expectations, while Nintendo's Wii numbers remained in-line... [Sony's shipment] number is below our previously lowered expectations of 250k to 300k. We previously expected SNE to be able to still make a calendar year 2006 North American and Japan shipment number of 2 million, but those numbers are now under review.”

“To be crystal clear, we don't expect it likely that SNE will update any of its hardware numbers before it reports its December quarter in late January. We believe that the December NPD report of North American November retail hardware is shaping up to be 125k to 175k, but outside of NPD and other local (Japan) market reports, we expect SNE to remain mum and focus on delivering units to retail.”

Don’t expect an official Sony comment though since there’s an all-important share price to think of.-Martin Lynch

: ) Too late, one's on its way from New york. Though I paid UK march 07 prices because of currency conversion! (+£25 for a step down transfomer). Well work it as I'll also get to play Final fantasy XII years earlier!

Your being naive if you think no one will buy it for £450 - id almost put money on it outselling the Xbox 360 before 2007 is out.
I'm buying one, was tempted with a Us/Jap spec one but they are selling for £700 & well, im not that impatient.
Just need to buy a HD Tv now :)
