The
Blackbird Rider is a guitar made out of carbon fiber that was designed
using 3D CAD software. It's 2/3 the size of an ordinary guitar but
makes up for that by being hollow throughout—even in its neck and
head—making the entire guitar a sound box. The goal of this design was
to get the sound of a big acoustic guitar in a smaller form factor
that's easily portable.

A new study by Nielsen Analytics (as in TV ratings) claims that
people who watch TV online are younger, richer and more educated than
the average TV audience. So if you're watching Heroes next to Giz (like
I am) congratulations, you're awesome. Actually, they're just assuming
that you have broadband, so you probably have a higher-than-average
income, a college education and don't quite draw Social Security yet.
You can still feel free to pat yourself on the back, though. – Matt Buchanan

After the brilliant bouncing colour balls advert and the even cooler follow-up, which repainted ugly Glasgow tower blocks with exploding paint, Sony has dropped the creative ball for its latest Bravia TV ads.
This is advertising at its most stereotypical, offering viewers a choice of endings depending on gender: two for men and one for women. That difference alone tells you who buys more big, bad ass, expensive HDTVs.

Japanese telco giant, NTT DoCoMo is releasing a scented mobile phone in the shape of the SO703i from Sony Ericsson.
Why? I don’t know but apparently the phone takes scented sheets that smell when you open the phone. Something to do with relaxing odours and there’s 11 to choose from. NTT has already tested smells in the cinema so that the fragrance released matches what's on the screen. A load of crap, I know.
The company has named its offering the D8000iDS, which boasts a double-screen: a normal TFT on one half and a touch-screen on the other. Do not expect to ever see this over here where phone makers think car exhaust fumes, rotting rubbish and under-arm sweat are all the odours we deserve.-Martin Lynch

CBBC, the child-friendly bit of the BBC, has announced plans to create a virtual world for kids, similar to Second Life. Kids will be able to create an avatar and explore a world which, unlike Second Life, will not involve cash, money laundering, shady property deals, political back-biting, corporate advertising (unless you count Coco Pops) or job-hunting. You may ask what’s the point but the Beeb thinks kids need a new outlet:
"It will give children a chance to move around a safe, secure world where they can not only interact with familiar characters but have an opportunity to make that world a more fascinating place with their own imaginations,” said Richard Deverell, controller BBC Children.
It will launch in the Autumn. Security and safety is top of the agenda so you can rule out chat rooms or kids being allowed to build new parts of the world.
Just like real life then, no money, no power, no influence. Well, at least they’ll be allowed to design their own hoodies.-Martin Lynch
