Rockers wake up, roll of that groupie and wipe the dried on chicken korma off your forehead! The Top 100 Guitar Solo poll by Guitar World magazine is here and it’s bound to set the cat amongst the pigeons, since no one ever agrees on things like this.
The headbangers at CityRag though have made it a bit more fun by locating videos of the Top 20 on YouTube. In amongst the Top 20 are footage from Stairway to Heaven (number 1, again), Eddie Van Halen’s Eruption (number two) and the above live footage of Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd (number 3 - and linked above).

What, No Zappa? Are they suggesting that Brian May was better than Frank? No this just reflects commercial success, Frank had few singles and little main stream exposure but he was one of the best guitarists who ever lived. I'd rate the guitar part in "Muffin Man" (The Austin Texas live one in particular) pretty damn good and as for "Watermelon in Easter Hay"; what can I say.
