From the wishful thinking department comes this video that claims that the X-Hawk flying car will be ready to take off by 2010. OK. Are you sure that's based on actual fact and not because you taught yourself how to make mediocre 3D videos on your home computer? Perhaps the X-Hawk can also help if a UFO attacks your city. Don't worry, if it doesn't work out SimCity 3000 will let you revert to an earlier saved game!
We all need to face the fact that flying cars aren't gonna be happening in any of our lifetimes. I'm sorry, I don't mean to piss on your campfire, but let's be realistic about this. –Adam Frucci
If
you grow weary of those cumbersome USB flash drives you've been lugging
around (most weigh about 10g), here's one that sheds nearly all of its
weight. The Transcend JetFlash T2K weighs just 2 grams, and is
available in your choice of capacities from 1GB ($15.90) to 4GB
($48.30).
Judging from the size of microSD cards the size of a baby's
fingernail, we knew this was coming. The T2K isn't so small you would
lose it in your pocket, but it's not big, either—it's just 1.6 inches
tall and a mere 3mm thick. Can they get smaller than this? Probably. – Charlie White
When
you design a gadget that tries to do everything under the sun, it
invariably both sucks and blows. At the very least, this 3D render of
the Infinity doesn't hurt our eyes. To the contrary, it soothes them.
The wristwatch has a display on the front that you can use to show off
digital photos and video clips. That, and it plays MP3s. Since it's
still just an artist's rendering, we'll likely never see it in the
local Wal-Merde anytime soon. 'tis a shame, since they're so many
quality wristwatch review sites out there. – Nicholas Deleon
I don’t suffer RSI myself but I know quite a few people that do [I told you 30 hours of Halo 2 a week, for a year, was too much].
The Swedes think they have an answer with the latest in ergonomic gadgetry. Meet the vermin-named, MouseTrapper Advance, which sits in front of your keyboard and allows you to scroll with the rolling square – yeah, I know. It comes with easily programmable buttons and also acts as a wrist rest so that you can still type. It looks cute and sounds odd but you can find a short video of it in action here.
Whether it’s the answer to your RSI is debateable, but it’s certainly the answer to cleaning out your wallet in a hurry. It will set you back £170.-Martin Lynch
That’s the rumour of the day, folks. Microsoft is readying a Zune phone to take on the media-hogging iPhone.
In a hush-hush, wink-wink, tap your nose scenario, the good people at Crunchgear have received some Deep Throat information that claims Microsoft will bring out a Zune phone. The site classifies the tip as a ‘sound tip’ but hedges its bets by claiming it is just an unconfirmed tip at the end of the day. So far, this is what’s predicted:
It will be smartphone that will not run Windows Mobile but have an interface similar to Zune.
It will be able to sync with the Xbox 360 wirelessly for streaming video to the phone
It will ship in time for Christmas [highly optimistic]
There are far too many ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ and ‘maybes’ here but it does seem logical that Microsoft would like some of that yummy, high-margin iPhone business. Your thoughts?-Martin Lynch
I have a lot of time for the Lego Mindstorms robots. Not only do you not need any real engineering skill to build one, but they give you an excuse and an alibi for continuing to play with Lego long after you really should have stopped.
But once you have your bot built, it would be nice to able to do more with them than let them amble about the kitchen bashing to presses, right? We could all do with the Divx Lego Sumo Robotic Championships 2007, then.
This is its third outing and if you want to see just what your Lego bot can do, then this is the place. One ring, seven bots, no mercy. It’s not fast fun and some bots just seem to forget why they are there in the first place but it’s worth watching the video here. Geekathon.
Be warned though, the video is high-def so go make tea or something while that buffer fills up.-Martin Lynch
