More shiny goodness from LG this week with the UK arrival of the LG Shine. The company behind the slinky Chocolate and the catwalk Prada phones is hoping to rack up a few sales here with its polished metal slider, LG Shine KE970.
As the name implies, when closed the 2.2in screen is reflective so that you can check your good looks all day while pretending to be doing something important with your phone. Once you open it, the screen wakes up.
All very good looking but what’s under the hood, so to speak. Let’s see: an auto-focus 2MP camera by Schneider Kreuznach, 50MB of internal memory and a handy Micro SD card slot. It supports GPRS and EDGE networks alongside Bluetooth and USB connectivity. It supports the usual array of music formats too.
This phone is not cutting edge but has enough to keep most people happy. It’s looking to score lots of sales on its good looks. It’s been out in Korea since last November, racking up a very respectable 180,000 unit sales and is still selling at a rate of 3,500 a day.
Expect the UK mobile vanity hordes to be all over this like a rash.-Martin Lynch
