Samsung rolled out the official red carpet for its latest Ultra II handsets at 3GSM yesterday, referring to the 10.9 as the ‘crown jewel in the pack’ [pictured].
The series comprises the slim sliders, the Ultra Edition 10.9 (U600) and the Ultra Edition 12.1 (U700), a metallic clamshell, Ultra Edition 9.6 (U300) and a candy bar model, the Ultra Edition 5.9 (U100).
Samsung says the Ultra Edition II phones are slimmer and stronger than the first edition models, which is good to know. They boast 3MP cameras and come with Samsung’s Optimized Power Usage Solution (OPUS) which promises a 10% increase in talk time, 30% power saving and 10% more battery capacity.
Music lovers will be happy to know that the phones come with a digital power amp developed by Bang & Olufsen.
The 5.9 (U100) is touted as the world’s slimmest phone (?) but this changes so often it’s hard to keep up.
The new Ultra Edition II phones are certainly lookers but will they debunk the LG Chocolate, which managed to sell an outrageous 7.5m units in Europe alone last year?-Martin Lynch
