iphone2.jpg Some back-room wrangling and a wad of cash later [alleged cash, that is, wink, wink], Apple has emerged from its legal tussle with Cisco over the iPhone name with - a share of the iPhone name. That’s right, both companies will get to use the iPhone name.

A specific sum wasn’t mentioned for ‘confidentiality reasons’, but you can be sure it’s more than enough to buy some ruffled Cisco execs a few beachside properties in the Caribbean. They might even get a free iPhone out of the deal.

Both companies, in an effort to make this seem less of a pay-off and more of a positive-spin collaborative decision, announced that they will ‘explore’ opportunities for interoperability in the areas like security, consumer and business communications. Whatever. -Martin Lynch
