Top 12 Failed Japanese Inventions March 4, 2007
READ MORE Gadgets
Uebanet put together a collection of 12 Japanese inventions that "never quite took off". It's tough to pick a favorite from the list, but I do enjoy the Hair Blocker. While apparently designed to prevent females/hippies/80s rockers from getting hair in their noodles, it doubles as a intimidating lion mane or cheery sunshine hat.

Vadhò: Hydrogen Power, Jet Styling March 4, 2007

Let's face it, any car—no matter how fast or sexy—is still out-cooled by "Maverick" and whatever he's flying these days. But the Giugiaro Vadho, or Vadhò, is the greatest fusion of car and jet since the Batmobile. And the ubervehicle is eco-friendly because it's powered by BMW's V12 Hydrogen 7 engine. Here's more on the design from Motortrend:
The tandem two-seater bound for Geneva is said to be inspired by the aeronautics industry in an effort to give the vehicle a true jet-like experience from behind the wheel. The closed cockpit uses two adjustable joysticks to pilot the vehicle and drive by-wire tech enables the vehicle to easily adapt from left to right hand drive, or even in the center.
Love it or hate it, the Vadhò still beats the hell out of a Prius.

Shocking Autopsy: Shocking Gameplay March 4, 2007

Operation was a fun game, but fatally flawed (no pun intended). The sad fact is that no game can hold the adult attention span unless there is a strong possibility of someone getting injured while playing.
That's why Shocking Autopsy is Operation for adults. While you pull various weapons from a gangsters body, just make sure to avoid any mistakes with those tweezers. Otherwise...ZAP! Your turn is over. (Because you're dead). And then whoever bangs your wife first wins. – Mark Wilson

i-Cy Penguin Speaker Brings Happy Feet Home March 4, 2007

Happy Feet scooped the Oscar for best animated movie which probably explains why we’re going to see a lot of silly, penguin-related gadgets. Which brings me to I-Cy, this odd little Penguin speaker, designed to be hooked up to your MP3 player.
Those LEDs on the face make is look a bit freaky but with the lights out, I-Cy throws a snappy little lightshow to the tunes, dancing, tilting his head and flapping those useless little wings. Mysteriously, the promo material says:
“Play tunes to keep his spirits high; but tweak his tail and watch out!”
Now I’m intrigued. What happens when you tweak his tail? Does he crack one off, flip you the bird? I gotta know. Yours for around £17, not including postage from US. –Martin Lynch

Piano Wizard: Guitar Hero For Non-Rockers March 4, 2007
READ MORE Digital Audio , Entertainment , Gadgets , Games , Gizmodo UK , Home Entertainment , Music , PC , Software

Meet Piano Wizard, which is hoping to do for nice kids what Guitar Hero has done for delinquent, raged-up teens and drunk adults reliving those Rainbow/Deep Purple moments.
Like the aforementioned GH, notes rise vertically up the screen and players have to hit the correct key at the right time. Unlike GH, players are using a real keyboard to play the right notes. So, in addition to making musical practice more fun, the kids get to learn a real instrument too. With so many extra keys, this requires concentration, so you can rule out drunk adults with a yen to play some Bruce Horsnby. Always a good thing.
It might not teach your kids how to frag n’ move like a pro in multiplayer Halo 2 but it might actually help them become more social, musically talented, well-rounded human beings which, apparently, is a good thing. –Martin Lynch
