Top 12 Failed Japanese Inventions March 4, 2007

Uebanet put together a collection of 12 Japanese inventions that "never quite took off". It's tough to pick a favorite from the list, but I do enjoy the Hair Blocker. While apparently designed to prevent females/hippies/80s rockers from getting hair in their noodles, it doubles as a intimidating lion mane or cheery sunshine hat.

Our other favorite?

The 360-degree camera. Why it requires a harmonica to operate the world will never know, but we strongly encourage hitting the link for 10 more gadgets that are also each considered our personal favorite. – Mark Wilson

The bizarre spectacles are designed to alleviate vertigo and acrophobia. Looking through them gives the illusion that there's ground in front of you. Yes, really.

These are quite old - they're all taken from the 'Chindohgu' Un-Useless Invention Society book (before 2000). It's got some absolute gems in there - esp the inflatable dartboard (really!)

It's not only taken from a book, anyone who actually took the time to read the introduction to the books would know that these are done as a joke. The whole idea is to come up with the perfect 'un-useless invention' - it's not for real! ffs does no one do any research these days!?!?!
