Sony recently freaked out Gizmodo readers and PS2 gamers when it decided that one of the best ways to cut costs on the pricey PS3 was to replace a dedicated PS2 graphics chips with some emulation software.
Of course, the downside of this is that many PS2 games will be incompatible with the PS3 which launches in a few days. This was seen as hugely unfair to loyal Playstation fans. It’s hard to say exactly how many games will be affected and to what extent but you can now find out since Sony has launched a Web page that lists the PS2 games and their level of compatibility.
That compatibility, like those that thought up the silly cost-cutting scheme, is measured by 'squares': one square bad, two squares a bit better, three squares OK. Or, in official parlance:
3 - No known issues to date
2 - Should play on PLAYSTATION3 with some minor issues
1 - Should play on PLAYSTATION3 with noticeable issues

The new 4Gb Micro Vault Tiny comes in a clip-on case and a variety of new colours for those of you that think colour is important on a piece of kit almost too small to really see. You can now get it in purple too. To put 4GB in perspective, Sony says it equates to – approximately - 69h 50min of music (MP3, 128Kbps), 2,928 digital photos (5Megapixel, Standard mode), or 16h 20min video (MPEG4 QVGA 384Kbps with 128 Kbps audio).
It comes pre-loaded with Virtual Expander data compression software that the company says will let you store up to three 3 times more data than the native capacity. There’s no UK price yet but it costs around £50 online here.-Martin Lynch

YouTube has announced its own version of the Oscars, with seven categories: most creative, most inspirational, best series, best comedy, musician of the year, best commentary and most adorable video ever. Obviously, this should result in it being easy to watch the cream of the crop.
Not so. I’ve checked out the comedy section and I implore you now to go there and replace some of those on the short-list.-Martin Lynch
