Looks like our favorite Web browser is about to go mobile. Mozilla head honcho, Mitchell Baker, told the folks at APC magazine that Mozilla is working on a Firefox to go for your cellphone. It's a long-term project (meaning it's not coming out any time soon), but the goal is to allow it to work with all the add-ons and plug-ins that the full version works with. There's not many people who would disagree that Firefox browsers offer a richer web experience than their poor paid-for counterparts.

This particular development signals what I hope will be a movement towards much-needed open source democracy on the mobile internet. Perhaps the quality of Firefox will enable users to enhance their mobile web experience. I certainly hope so.

I love Firefox - but they'll need to sort out the memory creep it has for it to work on a phone/pda.
