You don’t need to hear the call of the cuckoo, get sunburned or check the calendar to know when Spring/summer is in the air. Just check the newswires for new sat-nav launches. You can’t avoid them at the moment, as people plan those summer road-trips.
In recent weeks, we’ve had the £100 sat-nav from Maplin, the Google Earth-equipped device from Medion and the biker-friendly TomTom Rider.
Now, Mustek wants in on the scene with its reasonably priced GPS 200. It’s no looker, let’s be honest, but it does have a large 4.2 in screen, MP3/video player, car charge kit and a price tag of around £170.
Here’s the full feature list:
4.2 inch TFT LCD touch screen with 240 X 320 pixels resolution
Centrality Processor at 200 MHz
SD/MMC Port
Mini USB
Lithium-Ion 1050 mAh battery
Dimensions : 13.6 X 9.3 X 1.9 cm
Weight : 180 G
Destinator 6 navigation software of Navteq maps
30 countries of Europe stored on 512 SD memory card
Text-to-speech
Image viewer
MP3 player
MPEG4 player
Windows CE.net 4.2
If you're not already confused, you can opt for Palm's new Treo with free sat-nav software thrown in. Good luck. -Martin Lynch
