The Optimus Maximus keyboard has acquired the reputation of a technological Bigfoot in recent years, thanks to it being largely invisible. You can see what I mean, here and here.

However, according to its Russian designer, Art Lebedev, all of this cloak and dagger nonsense will end in just over three days when the keyboard, complete with OLED keys, will be available to pre-order for the princely sum of $1,564 (£790).

For those of you still upright and not lying on your backs howling with laughter, the keyboard sports a little OLED display behind the keys. These can be programmed using special software to change the picture on each. Only 200 are being made this year.

Despite being too expensive, this will sell faster than a pair of pre-bald/detox Britney's hotpants, so if you have cash to burn…go here. -Martin Lynch

Okay this piece of kit isn't going to help your business any time soon, but if the price dropped dramatically and key vendors such as Adobe and Microsoft decided to support it, maybe it could?

Wasn't it supposed to be no more than a high end mobile phone? Why the huge price jump?

iv just purchased one, there shipping it now apparently, when i get it i will blog about it and take some photos, it looks great

Who the heck has that kind of money to spend on a keyboard? That's crazy. These keyboards should probably (or probably were) only (be) sold to hip hop stars. Those are the only people crazy enough to buy something for that price that is just 'bling' at the end of the day. Highly impractical, in my opinion. It reminds me of Puff Daddy's diamond covered iPod. Like that has any use except to show off how much money you have (like any normal or respectable person even cares?)

I really want one. It looks great, I'll try to pick on up in Russia, might be cheaper. ;)

Indeed, it’s very expensive but, I tell you, it’s worth your money. You will not regret spending too much for this awesome thing. This is far better than wasting money on any BS pants, of course.

In playstation 3 mag this month they have it priced at an expensive, but in reach; £230 . No so, says the retailer.

I look forward to hearing about it and hope they find a cheaper way of getting the tech in the box.
