It’s official: the PSP is becoming a phone if, for no other reason, than to piss Apple off and screw with the iPhone launch.
The PSP has found itself in no man’s land in recent times, with shrinking UMD movie sales and long overdue price cuts to keep it selling. We all know something had to be done and boy, has Sony gone and done it. In a deal with BT, the PSP is about to become a phone, Net browser and video comms device.
The four-year deal – which covers 102 Sony territories mainly in EMEA and Oceania - will see BT and Sony work to pimp the PSP from portable entertainment device to portable communications and entertainment device. There are 8 million PSPs in EMEA. Video calls, voice calls, wireless broadband Net surfing, messaging – it’s all on the way and the UK is getting it first.
That said, no date has been given for any of these things so maybe it’s not going to spoil the iPhone’s day in the sun after all.-Martin Lynch

Besides the crappy graphic design put into this pic, there is no way that the psp would have a function to turn into a cell phone. There is no internal mic or anything dealing with sending a signal other than wifi. if anything the psp-phone concept will end up looking something like this...

get real you guys. the pic above is a fake. its only a concept!! to show you dumb people that the psp will soon be upgraded to a phone! i guess the question should be whether the rotating device on the psp fone will last given the constant turning it will have to endure.. this is the next logical evolution of phones i guess. cameras are at 5 MPs already, walkmans, mobile tv. even phones that operate like a notebook. gaming has been tackled by nokia earlier but the resolution is still crappy. i guess this is the next logical step. ill be buying this fone for sure. i just hope they keep all of the psp's features and the quality of the resolution. because the top fones of sony ericson are just up to 256k. the psp has 16M. i wonder how they are going to tackle making the psp into a phone without compromising the resolution. and also the software. itl have to have a pretty powerful processor given the fact that itl have to accomodate the platform of the fone and the psp. does anybody know the date of this phone's (psp phone) release? and warning to all you excited guys out there. you may have to look for reviews first once this fone is out. first editions are usually crappy when it comes to technology. no matter how much effort they put into it it always manages to have a room for errors and glitches. so there.

God i hope they fix the audio thing so that music is automatically displayed as artist > album > track. Just like on the fones.
All in all u lot cannot c past ur noses its called imagination! u need it if ur all gonna b computer nerds!programs may b mathematical but u need to imagine a 'coded route around the problem' quote my computer science teacher. And the psp OS needs a lot of work to make it more user friendly before they put telecommunications protocols and interface software on it aswell. oh and also its faaaar to big at the moment to be a fone.

Well a new update to use skype came out with a firmware update on slim ( v 3.90) and with a seperate headset, one can call to a cellphone, another psp, another skype user (on pc) or to a house phone. There is a plan for it w/o the need of purchasing a new PSP

It's actually true. I tried the BT Go Messenger on my PSP to talk to my partner on his PC and of course he has this messenger also installed on his PC. Skype works well too!
ok, i'm having a hard time believing this bs, but if sony does come out with a PSP Phone that would be tight! but until then, all we can do is sit around and wait to see what happens.

if u stay updated with ur upgrades the new version allows u to use a headset that u have to buy and then u CAN use it as a phone to see it for urself and for real just go to the official site its like playstation.com/psp or something like that. there u will learn all about psp GPS psp internet radio and other psp cool stuff. remember to always upgrade on ur psp network update option.!!!!!!
