Sony is being very busy this week, following up its PSP Phone announcement yesterday with the availability today of the latest - and very important - firmware patch for the PS3.
Patch 1.80 brings a number of much needed features to the pricey PS3, not least of which is the ability to upscale your older PS1 and PS2 games to near high-definition levels – assuming of course that your console is hooked up to a skinny HDTV. It will also upscale your DVDs in the same manner.
When hooked up to a home network, PS3 users will also be able to playback content stored on a PC or from digital video recorders, while the PSP can now be used as a remote for the console. The Remote Play feature for using the PSP to access photos, videos and music on a PS3’s hard drive has been extended too, to allow for remote access via Wi-Fi – at least after the next PSP update (v3.50) arrives next week.-Martin Lynch

wow how wrong can an article be, try checking your facts before you post. I got all exited and in fact the update made no difference to the running of PS2 games into HD. so thanks numbnuts
calm down tobyyy
according to the official Sony release info, it says the patch "will add upscaling of PlayStation(R)/PlayStation(R)2 games and DVD movies up to 1080p resolution."
what's your problem, numbnuts?
never tell a man to calm down when hes been annoyed. its looks exactly the same as before the update! My problem is that my brand new sony bravia tells me its STILL 576p not indeed the 1080p.
I was excited all day about playing HD pro evo!
You need to turn it on in the Settings -> Game Settings menu on the XMB.
