It seems that our honourable Members of Parliament (MPs) are keeping up with the latest developments in consumer electronics, which is great. The downside is that you’re paying for it.
According to a report in the Sunday Times, some ‘unnamed’ MPs are claiming plasma TVs, iPods and other ‘perks of the job’ on their expense accounts. One cheeky sod who re-mortgaged his house to release some cash, used his expenses to cover some of the mortgage repayments. One insider told the paper:
“There has been a successful claim for a very expensive, large plasma television and for a fish tank. After discussion among officials in the fees office, both were waved through. Also, in the run-up to Christmas last year, a lot of MPs suddenly started claiming for iPods. The system really is outrageous.”
Obviously, there’s a review of the whole expense payment system in the works but, until then, be assured that those free gadgets and TVs are essential to the smooth running of this country.-Martin Lynch

Is it any wonder some of us refuse to pay taxes?
When e-readers/e-books become as ubiquitous as the iPod I trust the "guardians of our democracy" (sic!) will be early adopters. At least then the clowns (didn't Jarvis Cocker have a more apposite term!?) might have a chance to become a bit better informed about the world the rest of us live in ...
The shameful thing is these F*ckers already get paid many many times more in their annual salary than most people, yet still have the cheek to claim for an iPod.
What the hell they spend the rest of thier stupidly large paychecks on I just don't know.
lol another classic example of the state this country is in.
