German Chicks in Bikinis Smashing Gadgets June 15, 2007

You have to have a certain special kind of fetish to enjoy watching German ladies in bikinis destroy gadgets with a scowl on their face, but if anyone fits the bill, we're sure they're in our readership.
These sets of videos belong to Bikinirama, three German ladies that enjoy swimwear and destroying electronics equally. The video above shows them demolishing a PowerBook, but there's monitors, CD players and record players as well. No ball breaking, but that's probably more of a hobby than something they need to be paid for. – Jason Chen

Todd MacFarlane Inks Halo 3 Controllers June 15, 2007

Creator of Spawn, a toy figurine empire and massively talented comic artist, Todd MacFarlane, has taken time from making millions to create some limited edition controllers for the forthcoming Halo 3. They’ll make a mint too, no doubt, with the Halo faithful.
It’s actually hard to make out the artwork since the shots Gamestop have put up are so damn small it’s hard to make out any detail. Gee, I don’t know, but I would have thought that a larger photo showing off the artwork on a Halo 3 controller that’s created by a top comic talent, would have been a positive marketing step. Still, even small they look a lot funkier than white.
The two controllers [Spartan and Covenant] will cost around £30 apiece [make that around £50 here, if ever] when they arrive in September and MacFarlane’s Empire will even throw in a free Halo 3 figurine with each.-Martin Lynch

Creative Launches X-Fi Soundcard For Laptops June 15, 2007

Laptop audio is generally something you tolerate or snigger at since most laptops come with the kind of audio depth and volume of Mickey Mouse on helium.
Creative Labs has just announced its solution, the Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook, an audio upgrade that uses the ExpressCard slot. It comes with Creative’s X-Fi technologies, like X-Fi Crystalizer, which enhances the detail and punch usually lost with compressed audio files.
It sports line-level and digital optical inputs/outputs as well as microphone and headphone jacks. You can also hook it up to 5.1 or 7.1 surround speakers via an optional docking module.
Prices have to be finalised but the Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook is expected to cost £60 and the docking module around £20. Due out at the end of the month. Jump now for a shot of the docking module.-Martin Lynch

Resistance Grows Against Sony’s Holy Gunfight June 15, 2007

I‘ve already reported on the ridiculous reaction to the Sony PS3 game, Resistance: Fall of Man, by the Church of England but, while it would be nice to think such OTT – and opportunistic - reactions would dissipate quickly, this one has grown. Unfortunately. UK PM Tony Blair weighed in on the issue yesterday during Prime Minister’s Questions. He said:
“I think it's important that any of the companies engaged in promoting these types of goods have some sense of responsibility and also some sensitivity to the feelings of others.”
Wow, anti-violent game lectures from a man who sent kids to war – with real guns – under false pretences.
Anyway, Sony Japan has obviously taken note of Blair’s input and the PR machine is rolling into action faster than a PS3 launch stampede. Sony spokeswoman Nanako Kato said talks with the Church are about to start and commented:
“We take the church's views seriously,” but stopped short of saying what it plans to do – although you can be sure it will involve a big bag of cash.-Martin Lynch
