Time seems to stand still when you’re waiting for the kettle to boil, leaving you shuffling around impatiently, craving that first caffeine injection of the day. OK, it might only be 3 minutes but it’s still true. In fact, research says it’s 2m 47secs. Still too long.
Tefal is about to launch its latest kettle through Currys, which promises you a cup of boiling hot tea in 3 seconds. Oh yes. You fill the Tefal Quick Cup kettle as normal then hit the red button. The kettle sucks up enough water (220ml) for one cup through a coiled heating element so that by the time it hits the spout, it’s boiling.
Not only that, but it also houses a water filter and the company says it uses up to 65 per cent less energy [or £30 a year] than a regular kettle. You will have to pay a bit extra though since it will cost £60 when it lands on July 1.-Martin Lynch

That’s the claim from custom-PC specialist Alienware, which is teasing the hordes of Light and Dark bedroom Jedis around the world with some shots of its forthcoming Aurora range.
Personally, I think they are wee bit late to the party and could have done with arriving back when the movies were around. OK, I know it’s the 30th anniversary for the movies but still…
Anyway, haven't there been other Star Wars PCs? Help me out here.
There’s little in the way of details on what you get under the hood but I’m sure it’ll be no different than any other high-end gaming rig with a selection of speedy chips, fat HDDs and whizz-bang graphics cards. This is what the marketing guff says – for the Dark Side that is:
* Shrouded in a magnificent black case design showcasing head-turning artwork of Darth Vader and the rest of the sinister Imperial forces.
* Features an exclusive Imperial wallpaper and desktop skin as well as a pulse-pounding Star Wars movie soundtrack.
* Powered by AMD® Athlon™ 64 and 64 FX processors, NVIDIA SLI™ graphics technology, and PCI Express technology.
Alienware recently launched its Hangar 18 home cinema PC, which looks cute but missed a trick by not including a HD drive – neither HD DVD nor Blu-ray. Will the Aurora’s rectify the oversight or can’t The Force see that far ahead? Jump now to see what your Light Side PC will look like.-Martin Lynch

The PS3 is overpriced. It’s a fact. It’s also the key reason why sales have been sluggish and, although the gaming world has been clamouring for some form of cut, Sony has firmly denied such heinous suggestions.
However, this weekend, Sony chairman and chief executive, Howard Stringer, admitted that there is “no question” that consumers want a new, pocket-friendly price tag. While magnimously praising the Wii and Nintendo’s business model, he firmly denied ["No,no,no,no"] that the Wii is more fun to play than the PS3. The overall good news though is that a price cut is coming and it will be before Christmas. Stringer was quoted in the FT as saying:
“[The amount of the price cut] is what we are studying at the moment. That's what we are trying to define."
I vote for £398. Odds-on favourite right now is a $100 reduction. Let’s just hope ‘before Christmas’ means, say, July? Optimism, or what? Personally, I think it’ll be a November cut for the 1-year anniversary but with any luck, continued pressure from the Xbox 360 and the Wii will force Sony’s scissors towards an early snip. -Martin Lynch
