HannsSpree, that maker of odd-shaped TVs, has launched its latest range of personalised LCD monitors. The first in the new XM series is the New York, a 19in widescreen display that boasts a mechanical and industrial theme.

Shrugging off the conventional plastic sleekness associated with most modern displays, the black-clad New York is all angles and exposed rivets, and looks like someone decided to weld two sheets of metal together. Not to everyone’s taste, I’m sure, but it’s certainly a bit different.

Despite the retro look, it has a fast 5ms response time, 150-degree viewing angle and 1400x900 pixel resolution. The brightness is rated at 300 cd/m2 and there’s a claimed 700:1 contrast. There’s also a height adjustable stand and cable-tidier.

It measures 21.2 x 48.5 x 40.2cm, weighs in at 6Kg and has a useful 3-year onsite swap-out warranty. At £130 – you can find it a bit cheaper online – this is a keenly priced fashion statement. Another pic after the jump. -Martin Lynch
