There been some speculation about a ‘mystery application’ on iPhone in recent weeks but now that mystery is solved: YouTube videos.
Apple is cranking up the hype machine in the run up to the US launch next week by announcing that iPhone owners will be able to watch YouTube content using a special player and in the higher quality H.264 codec. This is the same codec that YouTube uses for new videos, and for the older ones that need re-encoding.
The recently upgraded Apple TV offers streaming of H.264 YouTube videos too. iPhone owners will be able to stream over 10,000 YouTube videos on the June 29 launch day, using WiFi or the EDGE network.
