Lawnchair Puts Grass On Your Ass June 29, 2007

Read more Home Entertainment

The Lawnchair is a way to bring the outside into your...outside. Its 25lb base is constructed from steel, rubber and felt. From there, the process works like a Chia Pet.

You "upholster" the chair by adding sod, and a "built-in moisturizing" system (translation: garden hose hooked to tubing) keeps the grass hydrated when your sweat alone can't cut the mustard. Chia Pet Lawnchair grooming was not covered, but for those looking for more permanent fixtures, the base can be constructed of concrete .

While the Lawnchair isn't for sale at the moment, it's more than just a concept. Bookmark the product page, and you can be the first on your block who never let's their dog "go on the lawn". -Mark Wilson

Vortex Bots Scale Walls, Wake Neighborhood June 29, 2007

Read more Robots

By harnessing the power of a vacuum in much the same way your eighth-grade hovercraft did, Vortex's Mobile Robot Platforms can scale walls and other hard surfaces with full mobility. Potential payloads include cameras, microphones and anything you're willing to weld onto the back of a high tech RC car. Equipped with "semi-secure wireless communications" capabilities, these little spybots can creep into places your telescoping bipod can't. Privacy be damned; if you can't hear a miniature car vacuuming its way across your walls (check the third clip near the 2:00 mark), you deserve to get caught. -Karson Thompson

iSmudginator Allows Defacement of Virtual iPhone June 29, 2007

Read more iPhone

The iSmudgeinator is a cute little Flash app that lets you wreak minor havoc upon an iPhone. Smudging doesn't seem to be as bad as this time-killer suggests, but some degree of the "answer phone" ear grease smudging is likely to occur. Some scratches are probably inevitable as well, although you'd have to deliberately etch your artwork into the screen to match the severity your e-finger can lay down on this unlucky model. The latest version even comes with an iCloth to clean up after yourself. -Karson Thompson

wii remotes.jpg Nintendo’s not afraid of innovation, nor of taking big risks. After all, who would have thought that the clever and gimmicky Wii console would dominate the console sales charts month after month, ever since its launch last year?

Nintendo is raising the bar again by opening the Wii up to the public. It has announced a software development kit for the insanely popular console called WiiWare everywhere else, but boringly renamed at Wii Software in Europe. This will let Wii owners with some development skills to make their own games which, once they are bug-checked by Nintendo, will go for sale online at the Wii Shop Channel. And they'll be cheaper than retail games too.

Of course Microsoft’s XNA kit lets Xbox 360 owners do the same but it’s generally felt that WiiWare’s arrival will force Microsoft to be a bit more active on this front.

The first WiiWare games are due in early 2008 and, while Nintendo promised it will not censor content, it doesn’t want any Over 18 offerings. No Manhunt 2 rip-offs for the Wii then.-Martin Lynch

azur 540 v2.jpg

Cambridge Audio makes some great AV and audio kit with prices that won’t send your wife looking for the axe in the shed. There’s a raft of new kit coming in the next few weeks, starting with the minimalist-styled Azur 540D V2 DVD player - yes, it's not all about high-def you know.

This stylish £250 deck boasts HDMI connectivity and upscaling of standard DVDs to [near] 720p and 1080i. The company is so happy with it that it’s claiming that the upscaling on sub-50in tellys is ‘unsurpassed’. Well, it would, wouldn’t it?.

Still Cambridge has an excellent pedigree. The chipset combined with the proprietary Phased Lock Loop (PLL) system promises an image with very little judder. The Crystal/Cirrus Logic CS4382 DAC is what you’d expect to find in a decent standalone CD player or soundcard, and with a dedicated stereo audio port, music should sound great too.

The V2 supports the usual array of disc types and adds DivX and MPEG 4 to the mix too. Sound formats include Dolby Digital 5.1, Pro Logic II and DTS 5.1. Available in silver or black from July/August, you can check out the full specs after the jump.-Martin Lynch

The Coffee Table Aquarium June 29, 2007

I like fish because they require little in the way of attention, don't shag my leg, pee on the rug and, when they croak, they can be disposed of quickly in The Porcelain Portal.

I’m not sure about wanting my aquarium doubling up as a coffee table though. Still, the Coffee Table Aquarium makes for great conversation piece. It has a toughened glass top so that your cold-water fishies won’t drown in the inevitable beer spills, and a light diffuser for making it look very cool in the dark.

There’s a “unique filter system” designed to minimise cleaning. The table comes in four sizes, starting with the 19 gallon 34.5' x 34.5' x 16in model costing £899. Prices end with the 36 gallon model at £1,200.-Martin Lynch
