World’s First 'Free Energy' Device ‘Broken’ July 06, 2007

The world’s first magnetic machine promising free, clean energy, the Orbo, has run into some technical difficulties. Irish company Steorn is behind the device, which was to go on show for a 10-day demonstration in London’s Kinetica museum yesterday, has run into some problems.
"We are experiencing some technical difficulties with the demo unit in London. Our initial assessment indicates that this is probably due to the intense heat from the camera lighting. We have commenced a technical assessment and will provide an update later today. As a consequence, Kinetica will not be open to the public today (5th July). We apologise for this delay and appreciate your patience."
Orbo is described as a perpetual motion machine that can create energy through the interaction of magnetic fields. Wow, great, as long as you take into account that what Steorn is proposing is a complete rewrite of the laws of physics. This means that it should be impossible since it flies in the face of such little scientific laws as the 'Conservation of Energy' or the 'First Law of Thermodynamics' – essentially, energy can’t be created nor destroyed just altered from one type of energy into another.
Still, if this isn’t a hoax and something actually works, we are looking at one of the biggest scientific breakthroughs of all time. Watch a live cam video of well, nothing happening, right here. [Thanks for the heads-up Stuart]-Martin Lynch

And thus the world holds it's breath... and holds... and holds...
It should be fairly obvious that this is some kind of performance art/protest piece, similar to "The Yes Men" or the like, spoofing people's gullibility. Clue: It's in a pokey little art gallery.
Maybe they should try turning the lights off and see if it works then... I've been following these guys for a while now and they appear to have good intentions but have yet to produce anything remotely resembling a proof of concept.
actually theres a neverending source of energy from the fabric of space itself, all we need to do is tap into that and convert it to the energy we want - the law of thermodynamics would not be broken.
You hit the nail on the head there, dave.
All these articles are just hyping it up beyond all proportions... the Orbo is NOT described as a perpetual motion machine (in fact i believe Steorn said quite the oppostite)
Neither did Steorn say it generates energy from NOTHING (now that would break the laws of thermodynamics).
Please people, get your facts right and read some real sources instead of creating a game of internet chinese whispers!!!
nonamo: are you kidding?
The Orbo page on Steorn.com says exactly: "The sum of these claims for our Orbo technology is a violation of the principle of conservation of energy, perhaps the most fundamental of scientific principles."

Pure silliness. All one needs to look at are turbojets and their generators. The technology is there. I mean come on. You take high powered magnets, high powered light, mirrors, and plasma. It doesn't take a genius to realize you could take some oppositely magnetized magnets spinning, somehow coat them or encase them in highly reflective material, then take some high powered light (which has been proven to move objects), bounce it off of the spinning reflective material, somehow devise a way to speed up the reflectivity (crystals i imagine), take the energy created by the "turbo" light and port it back into itself repeatedly to speed up "reflectivity" and "revolutions"until you yield enough power to overcome any impedence or loss, then split and dispurse this "super turbo" energy any which way you imagine. Plus with the power of fiber optics, all one would need to do is find a way to boost the light as it goes through fiber optics. I mean if light is energy, can't it be stored almost like a dam. If you could somehow impede the flow of light through the fiber optics until it reaches a certain energy level, then let it move to the next "cell" in the fiber optic in similar series of events, then you could create an increasing amount of power. And let's not forget the sun is a free source of light energy. So, use the afore mentioned fiber optic "turbo" method of storing and increasing the sun's energy to "create" the high powered light required to be reflected off the spinning magnets in the firstly mentioned idea. I believe the power we could generate would be enough to even move vehicles....but this whole idea is mere speculation and ponderance.
I would like to point out that these devices are not "free" energy - they preserve the laws. There's a transfer of energy from the magnetic fields into motion. Then, transfer into whatever you have hocked up into the device's wheel. Energy is not created, simply manipulated at a more efficient level.
I like the way people pretend to know what they're talking about...
