There’s been some speculation over this but at the E3 2007 show Sony took the wraps off a new PSP which will be a third lighter and 19% slimmer than the current handheld.
The new model will weigh in at 189g compared to 280g for existing models and be 4.4mm thinner at 18.6mm. There will also be a video-out port for hooking the PSP up to your TV – a very handy and sorely missed feature on the original.
The new version will allow for temporary storage of game data from UMD discs for faster loads when playing. You’ll now also be able to charge the unit when it's hooked up to a PS3, or PC via USB, during data transfers. The new version will arrive in "Piano Black", "Ceramic White", and "Ice Silver".
Most startling of all for Sony is that the anorexic PSP will launch simultaneously in Europe, North America and Japan in September.
Sony slashed £50 off the PSP price here in May and while the US will get the new one at the same price as the current model, there’s no guarantee that the lighter model will sport the lighter price tag over here. -Martin Lynch
