Samsung is on the launch offensive this week with some new home cinema surround systems, including what it claims is the first upscaling 1080p offering.

The HT-TXQ120 [above] boasts 1,000Watts of power through five 150W speakers and a 250W subwoofer – all more than enough to get you evicted. The DVD player will upscale movies to [near] 1080p, as well as playback CDs and Super Audio CDs (SACDs).

On the connection front there is the obligatory HDMI output, a USB port, optical out, component video, composite video and headphone socket. It’s certainly stylish but is it worth the £700 price tag?

There’s also the £400 HT-X250R which looks the same but with 600W of power – still more than enough to charm your neighbours.-Martin Lynch
