Bungie's just put out an update and given us real pictures of the Halo 3 Toys Covenant guns. The plasma rifle looks somewhat similar to the "real" thing (the gun in the game), but the plasma pistol looks really bleh. Real Covenant aliens wouldn't be caught dead with a turquoise gun. However, it will have a "super shot" mode that will register more damage to that sensor you wear on your chest. Looks like the old laser tag games we played as kids

Just weeks after Blockbuster decided to shun HD DVDs in favour of Blu-ray discs for a national roll-out in the US, Microsoft has reduced the cost of the HD DVD add-on drive for the Xbox console to $179 [£88].
This is down from $199. Even more drastic – and better for consumers – is that for the next two months it plans to throw in five free HD DVD movies with each one sold. What a bargain, regardless of your stance on the format war, especially since the HD DVD drive can upscale your existing DVDs to near-high def. Don’t start jumping for joy just yet because this applies to US-only gamers [as usual] for the moment.
In addition, Microsoft will be offering HD DVD versions of sword n’ sandals smackdown, “300”, and “Heroes: Season 1,” for download on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace.
The pilot of episode of Heroes in high-def will be available on Xbox Live before it hits the streets.-Martin Lynch

I don’t think I’ve ever met a scary-looking espresso maker before so this Saeco Etienne Louis espresso coffee machine is something of a first.
Sure, I’ve been frightened by the cost of some cups of espresso in my time but this thing is outrageous and exciting at the same time. It looks like something that should be attached to Gogo Yubari’s chain in Kill Bill, but the tripod legs tend to give it some sci-fi menace.
The brainchild of Swiss designer, Carlo Borer, the sphere is made from steel while the spikes and legs are fashioned from polished aluminium. There’s no price but I’m sure it’s scary.
In case you think this is still a normal espresso maker, jump now and see it ominously stalking some poor victim at the urinals.-Martin Lynch

iPod

TwinMos is hoping to ‘shake your room’ with its latest iPod and MP3 player dock, the BooM1.
In the looks department, it’s not exactly offering anything too radical, despite the presence of a cute and oddly aroused model gazing at it above. What this 2.1 stereo dock does offer is compatibility with all iPod models and 8Watts per channel, backed up by a 25Watt subwoofer.
It can also be used with non-Apple fare thanks to the stereo mini-jack and can be hooked up to a TV or laptop for video of photo viewing.
The shiny BooM1 comes in piano-black or white and all you have to do is be ready to part with £150. Find out more here.-Martin Lynch
