coffee civet.JPG We’ve covered lots of odd and expensive coffee makers here on Gizmodo, most recently the one disguised as a lethal-looking, medieval morningstar.

Today though, we can bring you the world’s most expensive coffee. So exclusive is this bean that it has to be separated from animal dung before it wafts your way. It’s called Kopi luwak, which is Indonesian for ‘coffee’ and ‘civet’.

The civet is a cat-like creature that eats the best coffee cherries, discarding the outside and swallowing the inner hard bean. Once digested they pass through the animal, having much of the caffeine stripped out along the way. The result is a mellow coffee bean, once it’s been separated from the poo, that is.

If that hasn’t turned your stomach already then maybe the price - £300 per pound - will.-Martin Lynch

Is this really news? or did you just plagiarise a page out of 'The Diamond Age' by Neal Stephenson?
