Billed as an enhanced successor to the ‘world’s best selling digital radio’, the Evoke IS is a tweaked version of the Evoke 1XT [the first sub-£100 DAB radio]. The looks haven’t changed much - which is good - but there’s plenty of other things that have.
There are more station presets [30], FM with RDS support, an OLED display that can be viewed from any angle with a light sensor that adjusts the brightness automatically and an auxiliary input for hooking up an iPod or MiniDisc player. It now also supports the portable ChargePAK battery, for up 24 hours of listening on the move.
PURE Digital claims that it has also upgraded the electronics to make it sound even better than the 1XT. It comes in Cherry [pictured] or Maple and will cost £100 when it ships in September.
That said, the Evoke 1XT was very well-received and with the IS coming, you might be able to pick up a 1XT bargain in the coming weeks. -Martin Lynch
