Nano Motor Kit Takes The Effort Out Of Cycling August 06, 2007

If you like the idea of cycling but could do without all the huffing and puffing, you may want to check out the Nano Motor Kit, designed to make cycling a breeze.

It’s been around a little while but that doesn’t make it unworthy of mention. The kit is an add-on brushless electric motor system that saves you the trouble of pedalling all of the time. It’s quiet, weighs just 4.8Kg, and can get up to 15mph on the flat, as well as climb inclines.

The range is 25-45 miles [depending on battery] and it’s an ideal for solution for those aiming to be more environmentally friendly, who hate actual cycling, or who are sick of paying the London car tax.

The downside is that at £575, it’s not very friendly on your wallet. The video above shows one fitted to a Brompton folding bike.-Martin Lynch

Robotic toys are all the rage these - hell, even PC World is planning to open robot shops. Today, we have RoboBoa, which is hoping to do for snake pets what Snakes On a Plane failed to do for snake-oriented action flicks.

The RoboBoa from Mark Tilden and WowWee Robotics, is best described as one part robot snake, one part alarm clock, one part reading light and one part boogie disco reptile. It has 41 one functions in all but the main ones are its ability to be “a smart desk light, wake-up alarm, strafing room alarm, disco marquee, roving tank, safety light, playful cannon and friendly “alien” personality.”

I personally like the way it can track anything in the room that moves with its head and the IR sensor can activate a tracking laser beam in the dark. And, if you notice that it’s no longer on your dresser, don’t panic because it can also be set to roam around the house by itself, freaking out the cat. Expect to pay £110.

I’m pretty sure the Transformers thing has been done to death by now but just in case it hasn’t, let’s make this the final nail in the coffin.

If you’re the type of person who got excited by the Decepticon Soundwave MP3 player then you’re probably going to like these Frenzy & Rumble Earphones by Takara Tomy too. Of course, being that they mortal enemies in the robotic war it’s just as well that your head is there to keep them from tearing each other apart.

I thought the animated Transformers T-shirt was OK but I have a feeling that this level of fanboy behaviour could get you killed in public.-Martin Lynch
