You really have to be wearing your geek credentials on your forehead to seriously think about buying this but here goes.

PodBrix, which has made a name customising Lego, has just announced the Young Woz and Jobs Playset. Like a Young Indiana Jones for Apple fanatics, this Limited Edition set aims to recreate in Lego the early days of Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs before everything went to hell in a hand basket. The blurb says:

“Hand created by Tomi, each playset contains a young version of Jobs and Woz immortalised in minifig form. The backdrop set features a desk with custom made computer, circuit board based project in progress, and a 2001 style calendar marking a fateful date. The reverse of the backdrop displays the limited edition unit number and is signed by Tomi.”

The sets – just 300 of them - go on sale tomorrow for £20. -Martin Lynch

Ugly MP3 Player Promises 85-hours Per Battery August 28, 2007

ecolong dap.jpgThat’s some claim, but the folks at NHC claim that the Ecolong DAP will give you a stonking 85 hours of music playback on a single AAA battery.

If you consider 1-2 hours a day commuting, that’s up to two months of tunes. The company even claims that 6 batteries could get you through a year. That’s all good, until you get a closer look at the player which will probably only turn heads because your friends will be shouting: “My God, WTF is that?”

Still it is cheap and you can’t argue with the usefulness of 85 hours. It’s a 1GB player with FM radio and comes in white or camouflage. The white version costs just £21.

It’s no looker to be sure but at least you can pop for a camouflage version for £26, so maybe no one will notice.-Martin Lynch

The US Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) has granted controversial bloodbath game, Manhunt 2, an ‘M’-rating [Over 17s], meaning it will finally go on sale – at least over there.

The game, which recently became the first game in a decade to be banned outright in the UK, was reworked by publisher Take Two. It had received an ‘Adults Only’ [AO] tag before that and some might think – OK, what’s the big deal?’ – but, when you consider that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo do not allow AO games on their consoles you can sense the sigh of relief at the controversial publisher, publishers of Bully and the Grand Theft Auto games.

“Manhunt 2 is important to us, and we're glad it can finally be appreciated as a gaming experience,” said Sam Houser, founder and executive producer of Rockstar Games. “We love the horror genre. Manhunt 2 is a powerful piece of interactive story telling that is a unique video game experience. We think horror fans will love it.”

Take Two is appealing the BBFC ban and will be hoping that the reworked version squeezes through here.-Martin Lynch
