Months after US iPodders got iTunes TV downloads, the service has gotten a low-key green light for the UK.
The series available – all 28 of them to start – are largely US fare with a sprinkling of other content and consists of things like Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives, Lost, South Park and Gray’s Anatomy, to name a few.
Episodes will cost £1.89 each to download to PC or Mac and will play on fifth generation iPods – and iPhones, whenever we get them. £1.89 is a lot more than our US cousins pay but then that’s always the story.
“We’re thrilled to bring TV programming to the iTunes Store in the UK”, said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of iTunes. “We’ve got 28 shows and expect to continue to add more great programming.”
With BT, the BBC and Channel 4 among others, all doing stuff with online TV, things are really starting to happen in the IPTV space. -Martin Lynch
