Like the old saying about buses, nothing for ages and then, well, you know the rest. DAB leader Pure has entered the new market space for DAB radio/iPod dock combo devices with the launch of its Chronos iDock. These new DABdocks, as I like to call them, are going to be big business in the latter half of this year. The first two I’ve spotted are Intempo’s stylish RDI-03 and Ministry of Sound’s badly named MOSMC057IP.

The Chronos iDock, based on the Chronos CD, is compatible with iPods from generation 4 onwards and will charge the player when docked. Chronos iDock is part of Pure’s new planet-friendly Ecoplus range which has been designed to drink less than 1Watt when in standby mode. There are 30 DAB/FM presets, controllable text scrolling and a line-in for hooking up other MP3 players.

Apart from a large array of DAB channels, the alarm function will allow you to choose whether you awaken from slumber to a tone, DAB or FM radio channel, or tunes from your iPod.

It starts shipping next month for £100.-Martin Lynch
