Get those sleeping bags prepped fanboys, the iPhone is almost upon you. Well, 52 days to be precise, on November 9th.
As we pointed out months ago, O2 has today been confirmed as the exclusive UK carrier for the fashionable device. The announcement came with all the official details of what UK shoppers can expect to receive and what it will cost. Here’s the highlights:
· The iPhone - with EDGE support - will arrive on November 9 and can be bought from Apple’s retail and online stores, O2 and The Carphone Warehouse's retail and online stores.
· iPhone will be available in an 8GB model for £269 (inc VAT) and will work with either a PC or Mac. Unlike the US, there will be no 4GB option.
· Users will be able to activate their phones at home via iTunes without all that standing around in the store being hated by everyone else in the queue.
· Monthly tariffs start at £35 for 200 minutes and unlimited anytime, anywhere mobile data usage.
· Free access to The Cloud’s 7,500 Wi-Fi hotspots around the UK
· Initial contracts are 18-months long
So, what will it cost for a year? On the basic £35 tariff, that’s £899 including the cost of the phone. On the top package, at £55, that rises to £1,259. Jump now for the O2 tariff chart.-Martin Lynch

Ah - kindly £69 more expensive than it is in the states.
And that surprises you how?
look on the o2 site they say 19th october for release
And with the worst network.
Am gutted but there's no way I'll be changing network to O2 just to have one... not with their coverage or high costs!
This is an awful deal even for such a wonderful phone. Look at O2s current £35 18 Month tarriff and its 600 mins talk and 1000 texts!
The iphone one is 200 for each. Thats just awful. How many of us need unlimited data plans, a very select few. Apple and O2 have made a serious error here trying to replicate the U.S.A. model in Europe.

It's obviously targeted for the middle to upper class business man. How an everyday average joe can afford a £900 phone bill is beyond me. If perhaps they do opt for one as a fanboy, then they are'nt being very intelligent.
So all that said, it's good Apple and 02 rip these people off.
Works for me. The fewer people that have these the longer my K550i looks cool for.
Oh man, and to think i just bought a P1i sim free, with a 4gb memory card for only 310. Oh the egg on my face!
Oh, no wait, its okay, the iPhone is horrendously overpriced! And really, what good is unlimited data when only 30% of the country has edge coverage. If it didnt have coverage in the centre of London for us in the sticks theres no chance. I couldnt go back to pre 3G data speeds at this point
****What a waste of money...****
Just import 1 from US and unlock it, what is the point of spending £630 over 18 month with that little ammount of usage when you can import 1 from US for less than £230 and not have the hassle of a contract. and you can get it sooner than Nov 9th.
I'd been looking forward to buying an iPhone but I think I'll wait until next year and get a 3G model. Looks like my trust old SonyE phone will have to last another few months yet.
The tariff isn't that bad if you look at other unmlimited-data tariffs. T-Mobile's Flext 25 web-n-walk is only £2.50 less and has the same amount of minutes and texts as O2 £35. Same goes for the other tariffs. It's a similar story for the £45 one.
But then I would never get an unlimited data tariff without 3G.
Moan Moan Moan Moan : ) I thought free cloud access looked rather good, I don't believe they have that sort of option from at&t.
Its not moan moan moaning, its that its a rip off. £35 a month contract you usually only have to pay at the most £100 for a top end phone and thats with 600 mins/1000 texts. I realise the iphone is groundbreaking but £270 plus such measly amounts of time and texts is a joke.
Its not moaning, its maturity.
^^^SO THERE!!!
Sorry couldn't resist.
First gen hardware - I'll be waiting till at least 2008 before touching this hardware.
Get yourself a Nokia N95. Once the novelty of the iPhone UI has worn off, you'll be glad you did....
An N95.. yeh thats a great idea, i really want to spend all my time loosing my data and having to update my software every month just to keep my phone upto date.. thats the worst thing i've ever heard.. the N95 is the biggest dissapointment nokia have designed. same with other N Series handsets..
Ah, come on, it's moaning. Nobody is making anyone buy it, if you want it and are willing to pay the price you must think it worth it.
Sure, you can get a smart phone, some even throw in a Wii to try and make you buy it all the more.
I'd not buy one myself, not so much the price but it's a first generation product.
Actually an N95 is a great idea. Not everyone has problems with it, mine has been trouble free for 4 months now. Mobitec, try using the device rather than just blabbing off a few complaints you read on a forum somewhere.
Hahaha... Jimmy, i sell the damn things for a living and i work very closely with the 1 of the UK's biggest Nokia repair centers so unfortunatly i have 1st hand experience with the handset, so no i'm not reading a few complaints on forums and using them to "put down" the N95. i'm using FACTS!!
Take your blinkers off MobiTec, ever wondered what kind of issues you face working with a repair centre? How many happy customers contact a repair centre? You are seeing the argument from one side...there are many of us who are more than happy with the N95 and don't have the problems you are quoting. The N95 is a great alternative to the iPhone. Period.
Comparison between N95, HTC Touch and the iPhone.

I just got a Sony Ericsson W660i with two 512mb cards for free with 200mins and 1000texts for £20 a month on 3 and I'm very, very happy. Why on earth would I ever buy an iPhone when it doesn't even have 3G? It's no comparison...
