One of the optimistic hopes for many potential iPhone customers was that Steve Jobs was going to unveil a super speedy 3G iPhone for the UK and European markets. It wasn’t too much of a surprise though when it didn’t materialise.

Instead, there’s the next best thing, the halfway house that is EDGE – despite the fact that O2’s support for EDGE technology at launch will be ‘partial’ at best. So why is there no 3G now? Let’s ask Steve Jobs:

internet cafe sign.jpgGaming might bad for the health after all considering that some Chinese gamer just died of exhaustion after a three-day online gaming binge.

The 30-year old man from Guangzhou died on Saturday, despite being rushed to hospital from the Internet cafe where he was playing. Hang on. This guy spent three full days playing an online game [unnamed, of course] in a cafe and no one thought to say: "Er, we're closing", or "No, you can't have your 27th cup of coffee" or "Hey buddy, go home, get some sleep". I'm no longer sure the game killed him.

Anyway, three consecutive days of doing anything, short of sleeping, would probably result in terminal exhaustion too.-Martin Lynch

Door Stop Alarm Gives Burglars A Headache September 19, 2007

door-stop-alarm.jpg Considering five houses on my road got burgled in one night a few weeks back, I can really see the appeal of home security devices. I''ve now upgraded my alarm system with a hurley stick behind every door and bear traps. Are tasers legal?

Anyway, this one is sadly non-lethal, but it is loud and cheap. You just place a couple under the mian doors in the house and when pushed or forced, a 125-decibel alarm sounds. Simple and effective and there's no wires for the more advanced burglar to snip since it runs off batteries.

There's also a movement sensor with different settings just in case anyone tries to tamper with it - that includes you after 10 pints and no keys. Yours for £8 here.-Martin Lynch
