Yep, the madness is spreading. Some guy has just spent almost £5,000 to buy a souped up character off another player in the online roleplaying phenomenon, World of Warcraft.

The character, a rogue, came wielding the much prized Twin Blades of Azzinoth [above], which drop off big baddie Illidan Stormrage from the The Black Temple. As if you didn’t know.

The character also came with four out of five pieces of a Tier 6 armor set, as well as lots of other goodies. The unhinged buyer’s in-game name is Shaks but there may be a problem getting to play with his sharp new toys.

Selling anything from the game-world in the real world for real cash is frowned on by game-maker Blizzard and, rumour has it, his account has already been banned. Wow, £5,000 down and no one to kill.-Martin Lynch

What a plonker!

Leeroy!?

Am just wondering why they allowed the trade to take place in the first place when selling gameware is frowned upon. ?? Hmmm...it makes sense to really read the TOS (Terms of Services) before you even start playing online!

They usually get around it by saying they aren't selling the account/character but instead the man-hours spent to get the account/character to its current point.

Hah, that's funny. Yup, a first rate moron. Oh well, its his money, hope he's happy with that. Anyway, anyone here at UK Gizmodo know exactly what the hell is going on with the American version of Gizmodo? First I couldn't comment even though I was logged in, and now I can access the site at all.

I can't see how Blizzard could stop them, anyway why do they want to stop people selling characters, just because they don't get a slice? They are raking it in anyway, the publicity they have got from this must be worth a stack to them. You don't like to generalise but the couple of people I know who play this game are so steriotypical NERD'S it's not funny, put it this way you don't need a colour camera to take they photo, just grey scale.
