Philips stirred up a whole new kind of TV experience when it rolled out its AmbiLight TVs and now it’s hoping to do it again soon with the 42in Aurea, which I’ve touched on here before.

Now though, you can get to see what it’s all about in the one-minute promo above, using specially commissioned footage on-screen from cult film-maker Wong Kar Wai. This time around, not only does the ever-changing light shine behind the screen but through the front of the TV frame too – thanks to 126 LEDs.

It looks great and, yes, it will cost you a packet. That's roughly £3,500 in monetary terms.-Martin Lynch

Wow that looks amazing.
I want.

Call me old fashioned, but I really dislike these Ambi-whatever LCDs. Looks more like a party trick than something I want to use on a daily basis to watch my old Star Wars classics. £3500? Hahahah. Give me a Sony Bravia anyday.

I don't like the way it stays bright even when most of the screen is pitch-black. Still though, not a bad idea.

I always notice people who diss Ambilight are the people who have no idea whatsoever what it's all about.

Party Trick? Right.

When I look at it I start to think that TV doesn't show all picture and some part of it is behind the frame. Can't see a real use of it.
