Not only are Blu-ray players still too expensive for most people to have in their home – although the PS3 is heading in the right direction – Panasonic has been showing off the first in-car Blu-ray player.

Just what the point is of a Blu-ray player hooked up to a tiny 7in, non-HD screen is beyond me but the Tokyo Motor Show is all about making headlines, not sense.

The drive in this photo above [ugly, I know] was hooked up to a 7in display via HDMI for a demo and it supports all of the key Blu-ray technologies, like BD-Java. There’s no price, nor date for this but since high-def players aren’t even mainstream here in the living room, don’t expect to see it in a car over here any time soon.-Martin Lynch

That’s the outcome of the 25th Golden Joystick Awards, the nation’s biggest gaming awards gig. Unlike the Wii-love in last week at the BAFTA 2007 Video Game Awards, these ones are all voted for by the public – not a panel of ‘experts’.

Gears of War for the Xbox 360 stormed home to snatch the Ultimate Game of the Year 2007 gong, along with Editors Choice, Xbox Game of the Year and Nuts All-Nighter awards.

The Wii, which cleaned up at the BAFTAs a few days ago, won just two here: Family Game of the Year award and the Wii itself rightly picked up Innovation of the Year.

Jump now to see all of the winners. Again, the PS3 and its games picked up zilch.-Martin Lynch
