iphone_tout_a.jpg It’s not even out here yet but the Americans are already going bonkers for the iPhone.

Esteemed magazine, Time, has voted the iPhone the ‘Invention of the Year’ although it doesn’t exactly list what it was up against to gain such a frivolous accolade.

The Time hack gives five reasons why the iPhone is the best thing invented this year, starting with one headed: “The iPhone is pretty”. You can begin to see that this is hardly the most technical breakdown for lauding a piece of technology but, there you go. Under the ‘pretty’ headine, the author writes a few lines that will make many rival phone companies and users, a little irate

“Most high-tech companies don't take design seriously. They treat it as an afterthought. Window-dressing. But one of Jobs' basic insights about technology is that good design is actually as important as good technology. All the cool features in the world won't do you any good unless you can figure out how to use said features, and feel smart and attractive while doing it.”

Wow, are these reasons for the giving the award, or a love poem to the iPhone?

UK punters will get their chance to see what all the fuss is about on November 9.-Martin Lynch

I wonder if the Time Magazine author felt smart as he wrote that article...

Invention? It's a development.

Indeed. LG has always held design as equally important to the technology. Similar with many others I would imagine. LG is very much a style as well as technology company. What is Time on about?

i finally got one in the uk unlocked and on the orange network.
