Despite Carphone Warehouse mucking up the iPhone launch at the weekend, chosen iPhone operator, O2, has reported a bumper weekend.

According to its CEO, Peter Erskine, “tens of thousands” of iPhones sold over the weekend. The telecoms operator said weekend ‘footfall’ figures to its stores trebled, compared to the same weekend last year, and that two thirds of those that bought an iPhone were new to O2 or from rival operators.
Erskine said that O2 managed to outsell Carphone Warehouse, but then it had the advantage of its payment system not crashing as soon as the doors opened to the queuing Apple fanatics. He told reporters:
"The interest level has been absolutely phenomenal, making it the biggest selling phone ever for us, in one weekend. Footfall was three times higher than the same weekend last year.”
So, Carphone Warehouse, how many did you sell?-Martin Lynch

A colleague picked up his from O2 in Peterborough but wasn't met with whoops, cheers and applause after buying the phone (he was first to the checkout too) like our lucky American cousins.
I think the iPhone needs to quietly fade away as to the dupes who supported Apple and O2 underhanded marketing and sales structure.
Mr Jobs, I'm sure your mother is proud :D
What is it with this new anti Apple nonsense? Apple haven't done anything underhand, if you want underhand just look at MS, and of course there weren't woops in an O2 shop, there's loads of them and the iPhone has been out for awhile.
It's a phone, it's a lot easier to use than a lot of phones, if you want one, get one, if you don't shut up, there's plenty who do.
There are already many copy cat iPhones arriving.
There is nothing new about it. The simple fact that we have to pay a considerable amount more than consumers in the State alone makes it underhanded - at no stage did I suggest that they are soulely underhanded, Microsoft and Adobe are just as bad if not worse.
At what stage did I having a negative opinion suddenly make me exempt from being able to comment? I'm sorry I'll go find my Apple flag and wave it like I pretend to mean it.
At what point do you think that wanting to buy a keyring means that you have to buy the car with it? Sure I'd say yes to owning an iPhone, but I'd rather do it on my terms rather than the restrictive overpriced plan that further lines Apples pockets.
If you don't like my comments, don't read them... yeah idiotic statement isn't it.
The minimum US plan comes to around £870 in total, tying you in for 2 years. The minimum UK plan comes to £899, tying you in for 18 months.
In what world is that a "considerable amount more"? Apart from the fictional one in your head, that is.
...and like everything else in the world, in a years time the price will probably of halved.
"The minimum US plan comes to around £870 in total, tying you in for 2 years. The minimum UK plan comes to £899, tying you in for 18 months."
Do the math then - US pays £870 for 2 years - we pay £899 for 18 months - the equivilent of £1198 for 2 years - that sounds like considerably more to me.
Just very expensive. As long as I can call, I am happy. Might as well spend the 899 quid for a holiday
Sounds like more hype from the Apple / O2 pr machine. The pictures from this post clearly shows that the shops were not as busy at CPW and O2 had hoped: http://www.dialaphone.co.uk/blog/?p=750
