Obesity is not something you associate with the rice and sushi loving Japanese but just in case there are a few porkers, their days are numbered following the launch of Wii Fit for The Nintendo Wii.

The Wii Fit is essentially a white plastic board – the Wii Balance Board - that happens to be quite clever and is designed with a number of software fitness activities to help you shed some of those Christmas indulgences.

The multi-award winning Wii Sports might have gotten your arms swinging but this wants all your limbs twitching. The board forms the basis for an number of activities like aerobics, yoga, muscle stretches and games. ‘Core’ workouts are central to the Wii Fit and are designed to counter all the years you have sat on your ass pulling your trigger. Your console trigger, that is.

It costs around £40 there [thanks for the correction 'z') - but to buy and have shipped here is around double. Be warned though, it’s for NTSC Wiis only. Due in the UK early in 2008.-Martin Lynch

The last I checked it cost 8,800 japanese yen on amazon.co.jp, and that works out to be less then £40. Get your facts right mate.

Can't wait for this; looks like a lot of fun.

Does anybody know the physical dimensions of the board?

This is a really cool idea to get everyone doing lots of balancing. I like to monitor progress. As always if the software is clever enough, it can be quite a powerful accessory for Wii. Looking forward to it ...

There's pictures of this new product on the amazon.co.uk website. It looks like it's slightly bigger width-ways to that of your bog standard 'how much do a weigh after my xmas dinner' scales! Still, it looks fun.

Tried it at Leipzig gamesshow and in the Nintendo head-office in Japan, loads of fun and intensive. Size of the board is about an A3 paper and about 5cm thick.

This place http://www.compareconsoleprices.co.uk/wii-fit-prices.html says that Nintendo has said that the suggested retail price for Wii fit and the Wii balance board will be £69.99. Its a price comparison and stock checker and shows most retailers selling at this price but the cheapest price to preorder is from Sendit who are selling for £64.89.
