As Apple’s big love-in, Macworld Expo 2008, kicks off today, Google has been quick off the blocks by announced improvements to its applications for the iPhone.
Of course, that depends on whether or not you have been insane enough to buy that wallet-crushing O2 contract.
Anyway, the improvements include a slicker and easier-to-use user interface to the key applications, Search, Gmail, Calendar, Reader, Docs and more. Gmail has been speeded up with new mails automatically showing up without users having to keep refreshing the Inbox.
You can now customise the default tabs with your favourite Google applications for easy access and there’s a one-time ‘sign-in’ to access all of those apps. Calendar runs faster now and has a one month view. Google said:
“These new features provide iPhone users with a desktop-like Google web application experience in terms of ease-of-use, speed, and feature richness but optimised for the iPhone. We plan to expand this experience to international versions of the iPhone and to other platforms that offer similar usability and browser capabilities.”
Finally, iPhone users can now access their iGoogle homepage.-Martin Lynch

wallet crushing? Do you so research? Unlimited data with no cap and cloud wifi is usually £7 a month. I'm very happy with it.
@bob
200 minutes + unlimited data = £35 for the iPhone
300 minutes + unlimited data = £20 on 3
That's a wallet crushing £270 difference over the lifetime of the contract.
