Manhunt 2 Ban To Stay. For Now. Snore. January 27, 2008

The increasingly boring saga of the banned Manhunt 2 game took a new twist during the week when the High Court ruled in favour of the ban imposed last June by the British board of Film Classification (BBFC).

manhunt 2.jpg The ban was recently overruled by the Video Appeals Committee (VAC) but the High Court’s Mr Justice Mitting said that the VAC had made an error of law regarding the meaning of the word ‘harm’.

As a result the VAC has to go back and review its findings. Obviously, the recent celebrations by Rockstar Games over the first VAC decision have been overshadowed by this decision. In a statement, Rockstar said:

“We believe the Video Appeals Committee decision was correct and do not understand the court's decision to expend further public resources to censor a game that contains content well within the bounds established by the British Board of Film Classification's18-plus ratings certification.”

Maybe there is hope for gamers though since some online retailers seem to know more about the future of Manhunt 2 than the rest of us.

If you check the Play.com site here, you’ll see that you can pre-order the game now for its supposed launch on March 28.-Martin Lynch

Personally I think banning this game is a good idea as the first game was absolutely awful. Awkward controls and a storyline that takes you from here to snoresville in 5 seconds were only the start of its flaws. I actually had to go play superman on the nintento 64 to help me feel better. Needless to say that my copy is now safely in some landfill where it will spend eternity not in some game trading store wating for an unsuspecting victim to become embroiled in it's wretched and coma inducing plot. Hopefully my copy of Manhunt 2 soon be joining it albeit I'll take the trouble of buring it just to make sure it's unplayable. If I dare venture outside to get it that is. Never know when some crazed gamer inspired by barbie horse adventures is going to run me over. With a pink horse.

I've been playing a US release of this game for a couple of months... and man is it dull. The violence is pretty gory, in spots, but overall its actually a pretty dull game. I've actually given up on it because it is dragging on so long. I just wanted the bloody thing to end!

Granted, I still disagree with it being banned, as I'm adult enough to make up my own mind. I don't need the government (or any other agency) to tell me one more thing I can and can't do.
