Polaroid is all for embracing the digital photo future with news that it may be planning to launch a ‘prosumer’ digital camera with in-built printer.

zink camera.jpg The company, which has just announced the planned closure of its instant camera manufacturing plants, already has its toe in the digital photography market with its very cool, pocket-sized photo printer which uses ZINK (Zero Ink) technology and paper. Polaroid is expected to launch a 7MP camera [pictured] with an in-built printer later this year but has said a ‘prosumer’ model with more features is on the cards if there is demand.

Speaking to Amateur Photographer, Philippe Kalmbach, senior vice president and general manager of Polaroid Europe, said:

“If the prosumer users say we want something which is closer to a bridge [camera] with a very high zoom and different features, we are ready to do that.”

The first camera/printer will take 2x3in paper which can be loaded into the camera via a little tray and will come in packs of 5 or 10 sheets. It will have a range of capture and flash modes, a 2in display and take SD Cards. It will cost between £150-199 when it ships in the second half of 2008.
