Last week I covered a very cool outdoor home cinema but, it did have the minor downside of being part of a multi-million dollar house perched high in the Hollywood Hills that belongs to someone else and who probably won’t be inviting us over any time soon.
However, with the ‘Backyard Drive-In’ portable projection system, the cinema comes to you. All you need is a garden, some decent weather and around £500, and you too can get the big screen thrills outside.
The aluminium frame snaps into position ‘in a few minutes’ and Hey Presto!, it’s time for Halo 3 under the stars or Alien, with real-life wildlife rustling and creeping around the outside just to freak out the squeamish.
The big screen measures 10.5 x 6-feet but there’s also a giant 13.5 x 9-feet model [pictured] for an extra £225 here.-Martin Lynch

Buffalo shook things up a few months ago with its 320GB MiniStation TurboUSB and now it's hoping to do the dame again by cramming a whopping 500GB into its latest external hard disk drive (HDD).
The new Buffalo MiniStation TurboUSB is a 2.5-inch hard drive that manages to squeeze half a terabyte into a device measuring a 12.7 x 8.4 x 2cm [not 'mm' as previously stated - thanks Dave]. It also weighs less than 200g and, according to Buffalo, it means you can store up to 500 movies – in DivX or another compressed format, that is – but that's still a good thing. The key features are:
* Buffalo’s proprietary TurboUSB technology for super-speedy file transfer.
* Wrap-around cable for neat and easy storage.
* Tough armoured outer case and shock-absorbent internal design.
* Supports USB 2.0/1.1.
* Memeo AutoBackup Software for improved backup options, including regular system backup, scheduled backup and password protection.
* Buffalo’s exclusive Secure Lock Ware Encryption software for Windows.
* Support for backup program Time Machine.
It's due to ship next month and will cost ?207, while the recently launched 400GB version comes in at ?155. Western Digital was hot on Buffalo's heels with its own 320GB contender so expect to see something similar from it, and others, really soon.
