I’m still happy that I no longer have move a fat CRT telly but these days even skinny TVs are on a crash diet. Hitachi is bringing some of the thinnest commercially available TVs to the UK from April, with its new UT models, measuring just 3.5cm thick.
That’s not just for one of them either, but for the 32in, 37in and 42in models. On top of the weenie waistlines, all of them are around 50% lighter than many of their counterparts, with the 42in coming in at just 18Kg. So, what’s the glitch?

£1470 for a 32" LCD that isn't even 1080p? Are you kidding??
Why does it even matter if it's 3.5cm or 8.5cm or 15 or whatever when the stand is the best part of 20cm deep anyway?
Let's look on the positive side, the improvements in LCD technologies are making what we are already accustomed to or becomming accustomed to more 'common', and therefore cheaper.
These new TVs will replace the current top-of-the-ranges and the current ones will reduce in price......
Sooo, look on the bright side... Sure who cares about 10 odd centimeters when we have been using 1m deep CRT tube TVs since you can remember.... But in 5+ years time you might be more interested...
But this is a gadget blogg, so you have some interest in the developments as such, but you and I are both from the broke gadget enthusiasts... We like gadgets, but we can't afford it or don't seen the sense in it's extortionate prices (especially when first introduced)....
The thickness matters if you want to wall mount
